e-z mount vs 3-bolt

One major difference between Insinkerator and Waste King garbage disposals is that the former only uses a 3-bolt mount system while the latter uses both a 3-bolt and an EZ mount assembly. However, most Waste King garbage disposal models use the EZ mount type assembly, otherwise known as a ‘Quick-Lock Sink Mount’. But what exactly is the difference between these mounting assemblies? More importantly, which is better; EZ-mount or 3-Bolt mount assembly and why? Well, that’s what we’ll be looking at in this post as we compare EZ Mount vs. 3-Bolt Mount assembly!

What’s an EZ Mount Assembly?

As already mentioned, EZ mount assemblies are commonly used on Waste King garbage disposals. One notable benefit of this type of mount system is that it’s extremely easy to install as the name ‘EZ’ mount implies.

3-Bolt Mount assembly

At first glance, a 3-bolt mount assembly comes with 3 bolts that you can use to connect the sink flange to your kitchen sink. If you look at this list of the best Insinkerator garbage disposals, you’ll notice that they all use a 3-bolt mount system.

EZ Mount vs. 3-Bolt Mount Assembly; What’s the difference?

As we have already established, the main difference between these mounting assemblies is that an EZ mount system has 3 bolts while the EZ assembly uses a quick twist and lock mechanism. As a result, an EZ mount is easier to install than a 3-bolt system as it only takes a few minutes. In comparison, a 3-bolt mount system may take an additional 10 to 15 minutes to install. Nonetheless, both types of mount assemblies are relatively easy to install, both for beginners and professional plumbers.

One benefit of choosing a 3-Bolt mount system instead of an EZ mount system though is that it’s more sturdy. In addition, the 3-bolt system is crafted from stainless steel, making it more durable than the EZ mount assembly which is made from high-quality plastic. Even better, you can tighten the bolts on the 3-bolt assembly more to reduce the noise and vibration generated by the garbage disposal during operation.

Moving on, an EZ mount system has a removable splash guard, while a 3-bolt assembly has a fixed splash guard. This makes an EZ mount more convenient than its 3-bolt counterparts when it comes to cleaning the splash guard. Considering how fast the bottom side of the splash guard gets dirty, this is a plus as it allows you to clean it more regularly. Best of all, this will eliminate the need to dismount the entire garbage disposal just to clean the splash guard as is the case with some 3-Bolt mount assemblies.

Which is Better; EZ or 3-Bolt Mount assembly?

The type of mount assembly does not affect the performance of your garbage disposal in any way. Not to forget that you may not remove the garbage disposal any time soon as it can last for years. Therefore, choosing a 3-bolt or EZ mount system will have very little practical impact on your garbage disposal.

However, it’s important to note the type of mount system that your specific garbage disposal model uses before you buy a replacement garbage disposal sink flange. For instance, if you have an Insinkerator garbage disposal, you should stick to a 3-Bolt assembly that is specifically designed for these models. This is because 3-bolt mount systems from Waste King may not fit perfectly to your Insinkerator disposal.
